Our Team

Our doctors take the time to explain the results of your eye exam, describe your options and listen to your eye care needs. Because maintaining good eye health is an ongoing partnership, we encourage you to ask questions and share your health information, which could be vital to monitoring, diagnosing and treating potential vision problems.

Dr. Ken Wan, O.D.

Dr. Ken Wan OD, FAAO | Residency-Trained in Ocular Disease

Dr. Ken Wan is a residency-trained optometrist and Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a distinction achieved by fewer than 10% of optometrists. He provides comprehensive care for patients age 7 and up, with a special interest in managing ocular disease, myopia control, and advanced dry eye treatment.His clinical focus is in adult and senior medical eye care, particularly glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, and ocular surface conditions. He is experienced in advanced dry eye therapies including IPL, and works within a team that offers additional options such as radiofrequency (RF). For pediatric patients, he provides evidence-based myopia control using glasses, soft contact lenses, and low-dose atropine, with internal referral available for orthokeratology when appropriate.He is fluent in English and Cantonese and can communicate basic eye care concepts in Mandarin.

Education & Advanced Training

Dr. Wan holds an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto and spent two years conducting research in ocular blood flow at Toronto Western Hospital before pursuing his Doctor of Optometry at the University of Waterloo. He then completed a residency in ocular disease at Northeastern State University of Oklahoma—a path taken by only a small minority of optometrists.During his residency, Dr. Wan gained experience with anterior segment laser procedures, managed complex ocular conditions in a rural referral-based clinic setting, and supported pre- and post-operative care.

Professional Development & Mentorship

Dr. Wan is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and is currently pursuing a Diplomate in Glaucoma. He periodically provides clinical teaching and mentorship to optometry interns from the University of Waterloo.

Outside the Clinic

Dr. Wan enjoys gardening, reading science fiction, and spending time with his wife and two young children.

Dr. Jessica Zhai, O.D.

Dr. Jessica Zhai is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, where she earned both her Doctor of Optometry degree and Bachelor of Science degree. She was raised in Markham, Ontario, and her passion for eye care began at a young age, inspired by her own experience wearing glasses as a child. She has a special interest in myopia management and ocular disease. During her clinical training in Scarborough and Newmarket, Dr. Zhai gained extensive experience diagnosing and managing a wide range of eye conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, retinal detachments, and eye infections. She is also experienced in co-managing chronic eye diseases and providing post-operative care. Dr. Zhai is a member of the College of Optometrists of Ontario and the Ontario Association of Optometrists. She is happy to offer eye exams in both English and Mandarin, and is committed to providing each patient with a comfortable, thorough, and personalized experience. Outside the clinic, Dr. Zhai enjoys spending time with her family and friends, crocheting, and exploring new places through travel.

Dr. Yilei Wang

Optometrist

Dr. Yilei Wang was born and grew up in Beijing, China. She received her medical training in Beijing Medical University and Peking University Health Science Center. Upon her graduation with a Doctorate degree in Ophthalmology in 2004, She joined Beijing Tongren Hospital where she had gained extensive experience and expertise in diagnosis and management of different eye and vision conditions.

Dr. Wang has been practicing in Optometry in the GTA, Ontario since 2008. She is an active member of the College of Optometrists of Ontario, Canadian Association of Optometrists, and Ontario Association of Optometrists. She is board certified to prescribe therapeutic pharmaceutical agents (TPA) for ocular conditions. She actively attends both optometric and ophthalmic symposium and other opportunities of continuing education to extend her professional knowledge and techniques. Dr. Wang is excited to set up her own clinic in Markham where she also resides. Dr. Wang provides full scope optometry services at Markham Eye and Vision Care.  She is looking forward to utilizing her knowledge and passion to provide premium eye and vision care to her patients of all ages. Dr. Wang enjoys music, reading, playing badminton and spending time with her family.

Irene

Optician, Clinical Coordinator

Irene obtained her Business Computing degree from University of Winnipeg.  She has been working in the optical field for over 25 years and joined Markham Eye and Vision Care since 2018.  After studying at Seneca College, she obtained her Optician License.  She enjoys working with people and helping patient for spectacle selections and adjustment.  She also provides front desk support and pre-testing for eye examination.  She speaks English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Xiao

Optician, Optometric Technician

Xiao has been working as a member of Dr Wang's team since 2019. She graduated from Georgian College in Barrie, ON and has obtained her Optician License. She studied in a Medical School in China before she came to Canada. Xiao also provides front desk support and conducts preliminary and specialty tests. Xiao is one of the coaches for contact lens training.  Xiao speaks English and Mandarin.

Vaness

Optometric Assistant, Receptionist

Vaness is a recent graduate from University of Toronto Scarborough with a Bachelor Degree in Social Science, Majoring in linguistics and Environmental Studies. She enjoys serving people and has been volunteering at church, elderly homes, orphanages, and special needs schools since grade 7. Her fluency in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English allows her to connect with patients smoothly and to provide assistance and support at her best. Vaness enjoys playing badminton and watching movies during her leisure time. 

Alice

Optometric Assistant, Receptionist

Alice graduated from Toronto Metropolitan University with a degree in Sociology, which has deepened her understanding of diverse communities and strengthened her interpersonal skills. Alice speaks English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, enabling her to communicate with patients and effectively assist with translation when needed. Passionate about supporting people in need, she volunteers her time to help others and holds a First Aid certificate to serve her community better. Alice is dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

Samantha

Office Administrator, Optometric Assistant

Samantha is a B.A. graduate from York University and a graduate from Trent University where she has obtained a B.Ed.  She has worked in optics for about 7 years gaining experience helping patients select frames and arrange appointments for eye exams.  She also has had the opportunity to help check in patients and work with pretesting equipment.   She enjoys getting to meet new people and is able to answer questions you may have. 

Samantha was one of the first staff members to join Markham Eye and Vision Care when it was established in 2014!

Neeka

Optometric Assistant, Optometric Technician

Neeka graduated from Guangzhou University with a Bachelor's degree in Education and holds a Medical administration diploma from CBS College in Toronto. With over nine years of experience as an Optometric Assistant, she has gained extensive hands-on expertise in using pretesting and diagnostic equipment in eye care. Neeka continuously expands her professional knowledge and skills by attending virtual and in-person training. As a mother of two teenagers who both developed nearsightedness at the age of 7, Neeka is especially passionate about treatments that help slow the progression of childhood myopia.
